He initially worked as a scientist at the DRDO in Pune. After being deeply influenced by the writings of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he left his government position to devote his life to fighting caste discrimination and empowering oppressed classes.Key Organizations FoundedBAMCEF (1971): The All India Backward (SC/ST/OBC) and Minority Communities Employees' Federation, an organization of educated government employees.DS-4 (1981): Dalit Shoshit Samaj Sangharsh Samiti, established to directly challenge the political status quo.BSP (1984): The Bahujan Samaj Party, which was formed on Ambedkar Jayanti to bring Bahujan representation into the democratic electoral process.Political Strategy & LegacyKanshi Ram authored the 1982 book The Chamcha Age, which criticized Dalit politicians who compromised with upper-caste dominated parties. His strategic planning elevated the BSP into a major political force, eventually allowing the party to form the government in Uttar Pradesh. In 2001, he publicly designated his protégé, Mayawati, as his successor.
